All hail the Chicken! Winter storms have made Chicken Creek Nordic a popular skiing destination this year with the volunteer grooming crew working very hard this season. Check out their Facebook page for regular updates on the conditions or to make a donation. Photo by Peter Brindamour.
A Note from the Administrator…
Happy New Year MVR Supporters!
First let me start by saying, where did January go? We had a very productive month at MVR, meeting with all 18 projects and renewing MOU agreements. I am amazed at the commitment of the people who are spearheading these groups and will continue to serve our community in 2020. We are very lucky to live here and have this kind of support in our little town!
Our recent board retreat produced a new slate of officers for the new year which are shown in the photo below. MVR has many exciting events in the works, including a marketing seminar this month and volunteer engagement and recruitment seminar to be held in April. The Harvest Brewfest is slated for August 15th at Cottonwood Park and the date has been set for September 12th for the 4th annual Mancos Valley River Film Festival to be held at the Mancos Opera House. Your support of these events is crucial to MVR’s existence so please attend, listen to some great live music or watch the films and enjoy a local beer.
We continue to meet with potential new projects who have a vision for enhancing our community. If you have any ideas or questions related to a future project, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Enjoy this beautiful winter wonderland while you can because Spring will surely be here before you know it!
Warm regards,
Kim Cox

Welcome Merritt Winkler
Merritt has always called Southwest Colorado home, having grown up in Durango. Moving to Mancos in 2014 provided a deep sense of community, a simplified lifestyle and immersion into the beautiful and accessible natural environment the Southwest is known for. After spending many years in hospitality, Merritt shifted her career to focus on finance in 2017. She is currently the financial manager of Deer Hill Expeditions, an outdoor adventure company for teenagers. While her work-life relies heavily on the left brain, Merritt’s true passions lie with the right brain – an enthusiastic amateur printmaker with a degree in English literature and a love of all things creative.
